I am all about empowering my couples by providing them hands on and personable guidance, so they can experience the joy, excitement, and certainty the wedding planning process should have.
This week’s Tuesday Tip Day is dedicated to one of my favorite things ever: Food. So many good things take place where food is involved. Dinner table conversations. Morning reading during breakfast. Time to breath and recenter yourself during lunch. Big parties. Small gatherings. Celebrations of any kind. Everywhere, there’s food. Food has the ability to evoke incredible emotion and in the realm of weddings, it has the power to set an entire tone for your reception. You might be thinking, what kind of food should I have on my wedding menu?
Not just the “style” but what is your goal for your guests? To feel cozy and comfortable? To feel regal and fancy AF? To sit and relax and watch the events of the evening unfold? To have lots of things to do and look at? To have freedom to get up and mingle? If you’re aiming for the latter, then I suggest you consider providing small (but heavy) bites in place of a traditional meal – what some may call ‘grazing.’
For my wedding, we really wanted the evening to feel free flowing and we did NOT want everyone to feel stuck in their chairs for multiple hours. We wanted our guests to be up and about, doing as they please, mingling with more than just their table, playing yard games, admiring the gardens, then when it was time for our first dance or toasts, our emcees asked them to come join in.
Since we bypassed a full sit-down meal, we aimed to have enough variety and “weight” in our food options so people could fill up quite easily. So what was on the menu, you ask?
It wasn’t traditional, but it was fun and it achieved the vibe we were aiming for.
Remember – this is your wedding. Don’t let the internet convince you that there is actually a playbook on how to do it “right.” Have fun. Get creative. And remember that bigger isn’t always better!
